When Diego Velázquez (or Clara García Fraile) was commissioned to create mythological paintings for the king of Spain (or Philippe Quesne, the director of the theatre), she decided to decorate the salon of his palace (or Quesne’s office) withimages of mortal humans at work at the Theatre des Amandiers in Nanterre, with their sweat and dirt and overtime, encountering goddesses of the Olympus.
